Venue Feature: THE LANTERN, Romsey

The Lantern Theatre and Studios were built as part of a community project with money from Hampshire County Council and the National Lottery. Built and equipped for the use of the local community and Mountbatten School, the Lantern Theatre complex is an accessible community art facility.

The Lantern is used by a wide cross section of the local community and is a vibrant and lively place to be. The Lantern has a prominent music scene and can accommodate up to 5 bands rehearsing at any one time, three of the rehearsal spaces are equipped with vocal PA systems and drums and backline can be hired at reasonable rates.

At Mountbatten, we host a vast array of Arts events. Most are based in our Lantern Complex and Theatre and will suit all ages and tastes. They include a mix of music, drama, dance and art. We are also able to show recent, popular movies on the big screen in the Theatre.

There are two fully equipped rehearsal studios for drama or music within the Lantern complex. There are also two smaller music rehearsal rooms both with their own piano. The three music rooms compromise of a computer music room equipped with an interactive white board and a general music room and a Yamaha keyboard room. There is a recording studio hard wired to the theatre enabling recordings to be made of large ensembles such as choirs or orchestra.

The Lantern joined Space to Play when the project was launched and offers several rooms for rehearsals with additional equipment available for hire.
